This figure shows continuous records for the first 800 sec of the 2008 Iwate, 2004 Niigata Chuetsu, and 2007 Noto earthquakes, as recorded on a close Hi-net station. Data are high-passed filtered at 5 hz so that the individual events can be more easily seen. The early aftershocks for the 2008 Iwate earthquake are not as strong as for the 2004 Niigata Chuetsu sequence. The level of early aftershocks is roughly comparable to the 2007 Noto sequence
